Don’t let anyone rob you of your imagination, your creativity, or your curiosity. It’s your place in the world; it’s your life. Go on and do all you can do with it, and make it the life you want to live.” – Mae Jemison, Engineer, physician and former NASA astronaut.

My life continues to be an expression of art in progress. The intimacy and immediacy of birth is a riveting way to visualize and document our miraculous human odyssey.  Over the last 16 years I have had the honor to watch a midwifery practice from the beginning, to now being a member of the team. First, by following a student at Maternidad La Luz in a 24-hour shift, where a birthing person on the shift asked me to photograph their birth. Mind you, I thought I was only there to observe!

Next, as a co-owner in a Birth Center for 6 years, and now as a board member of a non-profit organization to train other women to walk the path and know the art of midwifery Art…that is the common denominator!  To quote the author, poet and mentor Maya Angelou, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you make them feel."

"Art evokes feelings.  My life experiences as a professional vocalist/choral conductor have honed my instincts for the exchange of feelings.   Being heard, seen and understood is a powerful elixer for transformation. To be invited to photograph your birth will be a trust walk.  Trusting me in your personal space, at your most vulnerable, to capture and document, whether in good light or not, in a room full of folks or not, bring your beloved birth story images to life. If you choose me as your birth photographer, I will do my very best and I thank you for the honor.
